Meet NAXSA’s Training Committee Chairperson – Greg Shreenan
I have been in construction for over 30 Years. I started in my mid-twenties delivering cutting edges to jobsites for heavy equipment like scrapers, loaders and dozers. The company I worked for made after-market parts for all the major construction equipment manufacturers, including CAT, John Deere and Komatsu.
I worked my way through a logical progression of experience in different companies to go from a delivery guy to a desk guy taking orders to an outside field rep selling cutting edges and ground engaging equipment to finally tackle selling big iron.
I began working with the Komatsu Dealership in Riverside California as a Heavy Equipment Sales Rep as it was again the natural progression of what I was doing. I am a husband of almost 26 years and a father of 4 children, so I was chasing earning potential.
I rounded out my sales and customer support from the equipment side of things with the local John Deere and Hitachi support dealership in Southern California selling parts and service for mining equipment.
Thirteen years of ground up experience prepared me well for my career in underground safety and Trench Shoring Company. Almost 17 years ago I started as an Outside Shoring Consultant with Trench Shoring Company. I have been there ever since. I got involved in training because I wanted to be of service to contractors. I am extremely passionate about connecting with people and seeing things progress from the work we do together. I was certified to be a NUCA instructor in Lakeland Florida in April of 2006. Since then we have trained over 10,000 people as Competent Persons for Trenching and Excavations in addition to Confined Space entry training.
In 2014 NAXSA was created and I can remember telling our owner Kevin Malloy that this was going to be something amazing! I became a NAXSA approved instructor about a year after that in the fall of 2015. In the fall of 2018, I was asked if I would accept
the Training Committee Chair position here at NAXSA. It has been an honor to be associated with the best of the best in this business and I am excited at the prospects that we have going forward. I have always been passionate about making an impact
and we have a tremendous opportunity to do that here through NAXSA.
My training philosophy is simple, and It is the central message here where I am employed. There is nothing more valuable on this planet than People. Training happens when people are interested and engaged and not until. Once engaged, we can explore how
the standards set in place can be used to keep us safe and help us plan to improve. Safety is now a marketable quality. The work we do in this area can increase the bottom-line potential of those we serve and bring the training we offer as NAXSA certified
trainers to the head of the class.
I am excited for the prospects of what we can contribute to underground safety through the Training Committee. We look forward to the work in front of us and invite you to be a part of it.
