David Dow has been in the construction equipment and materials business for more than 30 years. After Dow and his wife, Melissa, attended a trade show and talked with shoring and shielding equipment manufacturers, they called on contractors, utilities, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) officials and equipment distributors in other parts of the U.S. They saw the need for a distributorship that focused on underground safety.

Dow is a member of the National Speakers Association and is recognized by the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) as a Master Instructor. He was bestowed the “Safety Instructors Achievement Award” by NUCA for training more than 5,000 people in safety topics. Training is an important part of TrenchSafety, with more than 14,000 people having completed its “Competent Person” and “Confined Space Entry” classes taught by Dow. Dow also teaches OSHA’s 10-hour and 30-hour Construction Safety courses and a 10-hour Roadbuilders Construction Safety Course. NAXSA will initially concentrate on two important training classes – Trench and Excavation for Competent Person and Confined Space Entry. The classes are required by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations for individuals who work in these jobs.

Many NAXSA member companies as well as others offer these classes to their customers. Currently, there is no oversight as to the quality and effectiveness of these training classes, and it’s hard for customers to determine a good class from one that may not be so good to attend. While NAXSA won’t offer or conduct the training classes, the association will have requirements in place for the content and knowledge, experience and skill of individuals who teach the courses.

Once the classes are “recognized” by NAXSA, it will be like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval for the industry – a brand that is consistently excellent and preferred.

We will establish leadership in providing training and certification programs in the industry:
