MI Contractor to help Flint Water Crisis
Michigan Contractor helps provides long-term solution to Flint Water crisis
In the wake of the Flint water crisis, a huge spotlight has been turned on infrastructure in American, and specifically, the country’s miles-long network of aging underground water pipes. While there are new short term efforts to bring fresh water into Flint, plans have been in the works for several years that should provide a long-term solution.
In 2013, ground was broken on the Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA) pipeline, a multi-year water intake pipeline project that will bring raw water 75 miles from Lake Huron west along the I-69 corridor through Michigan’s Sanilac, Lapeer, St. Clair, and Genessee counties; including servicing the City of Flint.  Read full article here
High Arches to the Rescue
In the Spring of 2016, Loyd Builders of Ottawa, Kansas began work on a new jail facility for Miami County, KS. Part of the jail project called for an underground pedestrian tunnel between the new jail and an existing courthouse.
The excavation contract was awarded to Skillman Construction of New Strawn, Kansas. Shortly after award, NAXSA member Underground Safety Equipment, called on Mike Brewer, Project Estimator to discuss the particulars of this project.

Brian Garbee with U.S.E., proposed a novel approach.  Read more here...

Eight hundred, ninety-five feet
EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE FEET - That was the distance Chicago based contractor James McHugh Construction Company had to install 84” reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) as part of the WB 290 Flyover Project (Contract 60W28).  McHugh subcontracted Dynamicx Enterprises (Chicago, IL) to install the shoring, and tunneling contractor LJ Keefe Company (Mt. Prospect, IL) to do the pipe jacking/tunneling.  Keefe planned to use a 102” diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM).  This is simple enough on the surface, but below the surface is where things get interesting.   Read entire article here
